A season ago the Lincoln-Way East Griffins finished second in Class 4A. The Griffins look to return and win the state title. They will have to replace their senior leaders in Ami Ill, OF/Toledo, and Christine Malito, C/Rutgers. Luckily for the Griffins, they return talented players with much experience.
In the 2018 season the Griffins return: Alex Storako, Sr./P, Allison Jaquith, Sr./SS, and Lexi Krause, Jr./3B. Alex Storako, Michigan Commit, returns for her senior season. A season ago, Storako was named 2017 Daily Southtown Player of the Year; she went 22-3 with a 0.82 ERA and 289 strikeouts. At the plate she hit .418. Allison Jaquith, St. Leo Commit, a season ago hit .367 with 7 2B and 14 RBIs. Also returning for the Griffins is Lexi Krause who hit over .300. She also helped her team reach the state final, going 2-3 with a stolen base in the state semi final.
The Griffins will be looking to replace key pieces that led to success in 2017. There will be newcomers that will play a role for the Griffins Paige Geraghty, Soph., will look to contribute.
Coach Hyland hopes the Griffins aggressiveness both offensively and defensively will contribute to the team’s success.
The Griffins will start their season March 20th against Mother McCauley.
